Cheap Multi Fuel Stoves

Summary: These basic and light-weight stoves burn wood and hexamine tablets as well as white fuel and gas canisters with only one nozzle. They're popular during cold temperatures, but they're noisy and don't have simmer control.

Some multi-fuel stoves are hybrids capable of burning multiple types of liquid fuel. The MSR WhisperLite Universal, for instance, can burn both white and isobutane canister fuel.

Optimus Nova

The Optimus Nova multi-fuel stove can be used to cook a variety of liquid fuels. It comes with a quick-priming stove, an aluminium pump that self-purges and precise simmer control. Its low center of gravity and wide spreading legs make it a stable stove that can be used on hard ground. This makes it a great stove for group backpacking base camps, kayaking, and camping in the Arctic.

The Optimus Nova is different from other liquid fuel stoves that have a problem with unburned fuel lingering in the fuel line or nozzle. This can be resolved by flipping over the bottle. The intake hoses are removed from the fuel, 349338.xyz and forces them to absorb air which stifles flames and depressurizes the the bottle.

This is an ingenious solution to a long-standing problem, and it works. The Nova can be used with any fuel bottle with an o-ring seal, which includes MSR bottles. It comes with an oven bag that has pockets for spares, tools along with lubricant and fuel pump.

This is an excellent stove for backpacking that is suitable for use in the UK. It is particularly suitable for trips where various fuels are required. The price is very reasonable compared to other canister stoves with similar capabilities. The Optimus Nova is also easy to maintain and enjoyable to use.

Kovea Hydra

The Kovea Hydra multi fuel stove was first introduced in 2010 and has been a favorite choice for backpackers ever since. The Hydra isn't as popular among UK backpackers any more Perhaps because they've caught up to better-known brands or the most recent lightweight options from China or Korea. But this doesn't mean that it's less useful.

It's a relatively compact and light stove that burns all liquid fuels including white gas and propane butane with only one nozzle. It has a fairly typical stove design, with an ignition bell that is bolted onto an aluminum body that is anchored by three support legs that fold out. The pump is located just above the fuel line, the generator loop is wrapped around the inlet, and the flame spreader is situated just above. The burner itself is a low velocity flame which makes it a little less affected by wind.

It is a nice feature that it can be used with a container of propane or isobutane, making it a versatile small cooker. It is easy to simmer using isobutane and propane and burns all fuels at a decent rate. However when using white gas, the stove is a little slower.

One thing to keep in mind concerning the Hydra is that the instructions are written in English that was clearly not written by someone who speaks the language. The instructions warn against the use of certain types of lighter fluids that, if misinterpreted as what was intended, could lead to an accident that could land Kovea in lots of legal hot water. Any 7/16ths UNEF-threaded gas canister of a reputable brand will be fine.

Primus OmniLite Ti

The Primus Omnilite Ti is a great option to those looking for a multifuel stove that can cook using a variety fuels. It can be used with petrol/gasoline, gas, or 349338.Xyz - Www.349338.Xyz, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel. It comes with separate controls for each fuel type, and you can also adjust the flame size. This stove also has a fuel line that lies flat on the ground and is easily connected to the tank.

The Primus Omnilite is an excellent stove, but it needs maintenance to keep it operating correctly. Particularly it is prone to flare when priming which could be dangerous. This is a problem that is common to all stoves that use liquid fuel that utilize a secondary spindle at the stove's end instead of an actual coil to vaporize the fuel.

Another issue is the fact that it requires different jets for each kind of fuel. If you cook using kerosene, the jet hole will be smaller than if you were using gas. It's a minor issue but it's important to mention.

MSR Whisper Light

The MSR Whisper Lite is one of the tiniest, lightest and most affordable multi fuel stoves. It is also simple to repair in the field. It is able to be used with canister fuel or liquid gas and comes with attachments for each. The new model is lighter by 10% than its predecessor and the burner system has been redesigned to ensure better heat distribution. It's perfect for 349338 beginners or budget-minded backpackers.

The whistler Lite takes a little time to set up and prime, then boil water, but it's a reliable stove that will never fail you. The flame is very strong when turned to the max and will easily boil the water to a liter in two minutes or less. The only drawback is it's not as efficient for simmering as some other stoves.

MSR developed the Dragonfly to be a more powerful burner. It's similar to the whistler, but it's more compact and provides superior performance. However, it's not as cheap as the whistler Lite. The Soto Amicus stove and cookset is a great alternative that offers the same configuration for a fraction of the cost. Whisperlite International and Universal can be used with isobutane. Both versions use the same basic design however, the Universal version is also compatible with canister fuel.

Coleman Sportster II

Like many Coleman stoves this is a simple, rough and ready unit that gets the job done. It's solid and compact, and it's self-contained with the tank on the bottom and the burner on top. This makes it easy to use and is a great choice for beginners, backpackers who want to cut weight, and those who have spares in the van.

The stove is designed to burn Coleman's proprietary fuel (naptha gas, also referred to as white gas), this stove can be used with non-leaded gasoline, as well. A gallon of gasoline will last for as long as a standard Coleman liquid fuel cylinder, so you'll save money on fuel using this option.

It takes a bit of practice to create a solid blue flame on a liquid fuel stove. You'll need to pressurize the stove and prime them correctly before you can start. If you don't do it correctly the fuel may get into the tank, splash outside the burner, or even sputter. To get the hang of this, practice outside before your excursion.

The stove may lose some performance and flame odor effectiveness if you use non-Coleman fuels, but this is a tradeoff in its versatility. Be sure to buy unleaded gasoline and not something enhanced with methanol or (alcohol). These types of fuel can cause the unit's performance to decline and even explode.

ATG Jiko

The ATG Jiko Multi Fuel Stove from South Africa is an ultralight multifuel engineered for harsh environments like Africa. It's a compact, solid stove that can burn gels, solid fuel tabs, and alcohol through only one nozzle. It's a minimalist and ultralight design that is priced lower than other multifuel stoves. It also costs less per liter when compared to gas canisters.

Other multifuel stoves have an individual nozzle for every type of fuel. It can be difficult to switch between fuels during bad weather conditions, or while wearing gloves. This can increase the overall weight. Multifuel stoves of the newer kind use a single nozzle to burn multiple fuels, making it easier. These stoves are called hybrids or compressed fuel multifuel stoves. They are also referred to under other names like white gas, isobutane kerosene and unleaded gasoline/car fuel.

Another option is to purchase a multifuel stove that converts your regular Trangia burner into a multifuel cooker. These are available in camping stores that specialize in outdoor equipment and are also available internationally. They're a great option for Trangia fans and they're capable of burning all liquid fuels with the exception of diesel, and when equipped with the right accessories can even cook.
