How to Unlock your Vehicle

Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. How do I replace the battery?

Place the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into the slot and gently pry open the back of the fob that holds the key. After you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Put a brand new battery in its spot and snap the fob back together.
Note: Older Volvos use a different type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have an average thickness of 7 tenths one millimeter less than CR2032 and you'll have to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.

When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel transponder chips read the code and compares it with the one that is stored in the start inhibitor module of your vehicle. You'll need to bring your key with you to a dealer in order to have it replaced. Your vehicle will also be reprogrammed.
